Sanket Shah, CEO & Founder of Invideo – Interview Series | By The Digital Insider

Sanket Shah, CEO and Founder of InVideo, established the company in 2017 to address the need for an accessible and efficient video creation solution. Recognizing the challenges faced by users without advanced editing skills or creative backgrounds, Shah developed a platform that simplifies the process of producing high-quality video content. Since its inception, InVideo has facilitated the creation of over 100 million videos, offering users a comprehensive suite of video editing and production tools within a single platform.

What inspired you to start Invideo in 2017, and what was the biggest gap you saw in the video content creation industry?

I started Invideo in 2017 to make video creation accessible to everyone, regardless of technical or creative expertise. At the time, creating high-quality video content required editing skills or a creative background, and was reserved for those with pro-skills, which inspired me to develop a simpler solution.

My passion for video creation began in 2012 while I was in grad school at the University of Michigan. While studying I realized that there had to be a better way to digest content, so I began creating 10 minute book summary videos, which grew into my first company, Vistify Books. I wanted to simplify video creation for everyone, regardless of technical or creative expertise. After trial and error searching for the best ways to elevate and simplify video creation, we cracked the code with Invideo, which offers a complete solution in one single tool and has enabled the creation of over 100M+ videos to date.

How did you navigate the challenges of building a platform aimed at simplifying video creation for users with no prior editing experience?

Video-creation was an intimidating set of words – every time a non-pro thought about making a video, they were crippled by the sense of inability and the lack of know-how. When creating Invideo, at first we focused on eliminating the complexity of traditional video editing tools, which typically rely on intricate timelines. These tools provided more settings and options and tools, under the guise of more control, but took away what the world really needed more of – fewer barriers and the freedom to create. Invideo’s key features including customizable templates, drag-and-drop interface, stock media library, brand customization and more were offered to make it easy for users to create seamlessly. The focus on simplicity and automation ensured that everyone, regardless of their expertise, could easily produce high-quality videos.

Could you share the pivotal moments that shaped Invideo’s journey from its inception to becoming a platform with over 100 million videos created?

The introduction of AI onto our platform last August was a huge moment for us and our users as the technology enabled our users to express themselves in full stories rather than solely generating short clips. Since then we’ve been able to expand our AI offerings further with the introduction of generative AI for users to create full-length videos using a single text prompt. No editing experience is required and the new feature allows users to tap into their creative sides to create meaningful videos without the stress and time consumption that comes with editing. This is just the beginning of AI and we’re excited to see what other offerings we can bring to our users to give them the tools they need to create great content.

How has AI evolved in video content creation since you started Invideo, and what role has it played in lowering the barrier to entry for creators?

AI has transformed video content creation over the past decade, making the process faster, more accessible, and highly personalized. By automating the heavy lifting, creators can focus on their ideas and creativity without getting bogged down by costly, complicated tools.. Platforms like Invideo put the power of a full production team right at your fingertips, so anyone—no matter their skill level——can create professional-quality videos.

With increasing competition in the AI video generation space, what differentiates Invideo from other tools in the market?

Unlike other AI video platforms on the market, Invideo stands out by offering a comprehensive, fully automated video creation experience using just simple text prompts. It handles everything—from generating scripts and adding the perfect stock visuals to creating voiceovers and captions—all in one place. No need to juggle multiple tools or waste time syncing everything up. This makes it easy and affordable to create high-quality videos for anyone that’s growing their brand, telling their story, or educating the world – business, educators, professionals, marketers, hobbyists, anyone.

Invideo has been a pioneer in AI-driven video tools. What’s next for the platform, and how do you see the future of AI in video creation evolving?

Our goal is to expand features, enhance ease of use, and integrate various languages and tools, enabling every user to create professional quality videos. We anticipate the simplicity of the platform to spark a surge in video content, with individuals acting more like directors, concentrating on their vision and subject matter, rather than struggling with complex tools to perfect every frame. We are actively investing in research and development to stay at the forefront of these changes and offer cutting-edge solutions to our users.

As someone passionate about making content creation accessible to everyone, what milestones are you working towards to expand InVideo’s reach and impact?

We recently launched a generative AI solution that allows users to create full-length generative videos using a single text prompt. Users simply type in the kind of video they want to create into the prompt space and Invideo will handle the rest, including a script, footage, voiceovers, music, subtitles, and more – entirely using net new media. There is no editing experience required and no need to jump around between different platforms to create a finished, publish-ready video.

It’s this type of ease-of-use that our users are looking for. We’re working internally on ways to further refine our generative AI offerings and look deeper into other features that would be useful to our users so they have the right equipment to make any type of video. Our platform can also be used by a range of people from entrepreneurs to business leaders, storytellers, and more so we’re continuing to showcase the successes of different use cases to further expand our audiences.

What advice would you give to aspiring founders aiming to use AI to disrupt traditional industries?

Identifying real-world problems that can be solved by AI in a quicker, more seamless way than traditional industries do is definitely a whitespace worth exploring – while maintaining ethical standards of course. Creating a moat by leveraging data and AI capabilities, building a strong team, and developing scalable adaptable solutions can disrupt traditional industries in ways that both make consumers happy (by improving standard of living) and creating positive value internally in the organization. The key is to identify a real-world problem, where gaps exist in consumer needs, and that can be filled-in using AI.

How will AI video generation transform the film and TV industry?

AI will immensely transform the way movies and TV shows are created. We’re already seeing companies use AI technology to streamline production processes, produce commercials, elevate scenes in films, and enhance storytelling. The technology will continue to play a prominent role in the development of film as it not only saves on time and money, but unlocks potential for creativity, enabling filmmakers to bring projects to life that were once considered impossible.

How do you envision AI reshaping the way brands and individuals approach video content in the coming years?

Video is the go-to way for consumers to connect with brands online –  want to see more videos from brands. And this trend isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, especially with platforms like YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram putting a significant focus on video content. As technology keeps evolving, we’re excited to see even more opportunities for creativity and storytelling through AI, helping bring ideas to life and keeping audiences more engaged than ever.
